Special Delivery

“High standards often lead to lots of lonely nights.”
The Chemical Buddha didn’t have high standards. But he still had a lot of lonely nights. That’s because the women he was going after (correct that, any woman he was going after) did have standards. And TCB always seemed to come up short. When out with his male followers though, he noticed that there were women they wouldn’t sleep with. And he could never understand that at all. He thought if you have someone, anyone, who wants to fuck you or give you a blow job, you should totally go for it. But then The Chemical Buddha wasn’t about making other people feel special. He was more interested in making himself feel special.
Where have your high standards/expectations kept you from connecting and/or having fun?
Which is worth more to you: your standards or a good time? How often have you been able to achieve both?

Fun on Layaway

“Better to spend it while you’re young, than have it when you’re old.”
The Chemical Buddha noticed that unless you’re a trust fund baby, most of us have to work to acquire money and stuff. (We’re pretty sure he was one of the first to make this keen observation.) The thing about youth is that's when you're the most attractive. You're most flexible. You're most open to trying new things. You have the most free time to see the world. But few of us have the money. That’s why TCB thought it was better to go massively into debt to do all those things and then spend the rest of your life paying it off. Because if you only have the money to do it when you’re old, then all you’ll want to do is boring shit like gardening, reading, and crossword puzzles. And who needs money to do that?
What are you waiting to do in your life?
What do you wish you would have done earlier in your life and why? What’s preventing you from doing it now?

Grateful and Dead

“The long-term prognosis for all of us isn’t that good.”
One of the things that drove The Chemical Buddha (if you could call it that) was the thought of his immanent death. Knowing he might die at any moment, TCB was determined to get as much enjoyment out of his time here as was humanly possible. Some say he was too obsessed and that it actually contributed to his early demise. One thing we can learn from his behavior though is that if we take a short-term view of things, smaller issues fade away. The Chemical Buddha thought that when we frame our problems in terms of life and death, everything got a lot easier. Here’s an example of his thinking, “I may die tomorrow so I should drink all this beer, smoke all this pot and fuck whoever I can today.” And if he lived to see the next day, he would repeat the process. Until one day, his final breath (although it was more of a gasp) did come.
If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?
How could you benefit from boiling things down into simpler terms?
